Comedian-In-Chief Obama Jokes At The White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Each year, the White House Correspondents’ Association hosts a dinner honoring the members of the press corp. This past Saturday was no different, as politicians, journalists, and Hollywood icons came together to hear President Obama speak.
Among the attendees were Barbara Walters, Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes, Stevie Wonder, George Lucas, Stephen Spielbeg, George Lucas, Rahm Emanuel, Michael Steele, and almost 2,500 others.
However, a few key attendees were missing, such as former Vice President Dick Cheney, who Obama joked, was off working on his memoir titled “How to Shoot Friends and Interrogate People”. Wanda Sykes, the featured entertainer for the evening, commented on Sarah Palin’s last minute withdrawal, saying, “that’s not how you really practice abstinence” . She also poked fun at First Lady, Michelle Obama and the amount of press her bare arms have been receiving .
And once Obama got behind the podium, nobody was safe from his playful jibes. He spoke of inheriting yet another problem from George W. Bush , his close relationship with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton , as well as the apparently foul mouth of his Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel . Obama even addressed his future in office, banking on the success of his next 100 days.
All in all, it was an evening for Washington to set aside pressing and serious issues and poke fun at itself instead.
