Any Dirty Dancing fan worth her salt in lifts and turns knows every moment is something special – something memorable. However, it’s the scenes that highlight the growing relationship between Frances “Baby” Houseman and Johnny Castle – not to mention their own personal growth – that keep us always coming back to this ultimate summer love story.

1. “When everybody called me ‘Baby’…”

Frances “Baby” Houseman introduces us to herself…and the summer that changed her life.

2. “Max would close the place down first.”

The first scene during which the naïve Baby is exposed to Johnny Castle and an underground lifestyle full of sweaty, hip-grinding dirty dancing vastly different from her own privileged upbringing – and the moves happening up on resort owner Max’s main dance floor.

3. “I carried a watermelon.”

Poor Baby. Nearly every female can identify when she utters the cringe-worthy, you’re-so-hot-I-can’t-think-of-anything-remotely-intelligent-to-say-right-now line: “I carried a watermelon.”

4. “I’m doing all this to save YOUR ass!”

It’s the first time we see Baby really stand up to Johnny – and she’s good!

5. “The way I feel when I’m with you…”

After she sneaks away to see him, Baby explains why she isn’t as brave as Johnny thinks she is…and what scares her the most.

6. “Oh, Lover Boy…”

Perhaps the first scene during which Baby really starts to get comfortable with her newfound femininity and take-charge attitude. Who wouldn’t want to call these shots?!

7. “There are a lot of things about me that aren’t what you thought.”

When Baby tries to break the silence that’s fallen over her and her father after he finds out the money she borrowed from him was for Penny’s back alley abortion, we hear one of the most honest, and heart-wrenching, speeches in the film.

8. “She’s Like the Wind”

Who didn’t panic, just for a second, when Johnny decides having the summer’s last dance taken away from him is too much and it’s time to leave the resort?

9. “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”

Just when it seems like everything’s officially gone to crap – the summer’s coming to an end, Johnny’s traditional last dance of the season is out the door and Lisa’s the star of the show, and there’s still a rift a mile wide between Baby and her father – Johnny shows up and delivers what’s arguably the most popular line in the movie.

10. “I’m gonna do my kind of dancing with a great partner.”

At the end of the movie, before the music to one of the most popular movie theme songs of all time starts playing and Baby finally conquers The Lift, Johnny speaks to the audience about how he refuses to be pushed to the side, and how meeting Baby has shown him what kind of person he can be.
