Box Office Recap
Did you happen to go to the movies this past weekend? See anything good? Well maybe you contributed to the numbers below.
Weekend Box Office Results:
1.) Cars 2 ($68M) First week of release, and just like I thought the critics trashed it for being lame. Still made boatloads of cash.
2.) Bad Teacher ($31M) Critics like this one better than Cars 2, did surprisingly well for its first weekend.
3.) Green Lantern ($18.3M) Dropping down the list but still making money, doesn’t look like it has the staying power for repeat viewings.
4.) Super 8 ($12.1M) Spielberg’s big monster robots will chase Spielberg’s big monster movie away this weekend.
5.) Mr. Popper’s Penguins ($10.3M) Jim Carrey needs to star in the remake of Robocop. Yes, he does indeed.
6.) X-Men: First Class ($6.6M) The best entry in the ‘X-Men’ movie franchise thus far.
7.) The Hangover Part 2 ($5.8M) I tried that hangover prevention pill “Chaser” once, didn’t stop me from seeing this movie.
8.) Bridesmaids ($5.4M) Are these girls all gonna have a hangover and make a sequel in Bangkok witha monkey?
9.) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($4.7M) Even stranger than the tides is why this was even made after the last two sequels.
10.) Midnight in Paris ($4.5M) I have no opinion. I have never been to Paris at midnight to validate the authenticity of this film.
No, I didn’t happen to go out to the theaters this weekend. I guess nothing caught my eye that demanded I plop down cash, but I did happen to re-watch Dumb and Dumber for the 200th time on TV. This week has some big releases, stay tuned to read my list of films releasing soon for the big 4th of July weekend.
Pop Quiz, Hotshot: Did you know that John Ratzenberger (Cliff, from TV’s ‘Cheers‘) has appeared as a voice actor in every single Disney/Pixar animated movie? It’s true, and he has also voiced the same character for all the video games adaptations that have spawned from the same films.
