Now Playing on Hark: Caddyshack (1980)
‘Caddyshack’
What could I possibly say about ‘Caddyshack‘ that hasn’t been said before? Oh yeah, how about “Now playing on Hark! It’s Caddyshack!”
Everything at Bushwood Country Club is going great until a new member shows up (Rodney Dangerfield) and spoils Judge Smails‘ (Ted Knight) peace and quiet. While those two go head to head in a series of competitions, groundskeeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) has his own personal vendetta against a troublesome gopher, of which he takes things to the extreme. Golf caddy Danny (Michael O’Keefe) is struggling to deal with his overbearing father, relying on advice from golf pro Ty Webb (Chevy Chase) to be his mentor and help him decide what to do with his life. All these characters, and more, meet up for the ultimate prize challenge. It’s the snobs versus the slobs in the most hilarious golf-themed movie since, well, ever.

Pop Quiz, Hotshot: Did you know that Bill Murray, Brian Doyle-Murray and director Harold Ramis were all experienced caddies from their youth? It’s true! In addition, the roles of Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield were initially supposed to be much smaller in the film but their constant improvising was so funny Harold Ramis expanded their roles to be much more prolific. This did not sit well for much of the other cast, as their roles were significantly cut back as a result.
