Thanksgiving Theatrical Releases
The Thanksgiving holiday is tomorrow, so what does that mean for the box office? New movies are released on Wednesday! Here’s what’s playing for the holiday weekend, starting with the re-emergence of the beloved ‘Muppets’ franchise.
‘The Muppets’ (Rated PG) The Muppets are finally back and ready for both old & new fans alike! When a greedy oil tycoon threatens to tear down their old theater, the Muppets are brought back together after years apart to help save the day along with three of their biggest fans. Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and Rashida Jones head the cast of humans along with all the Muppet favorites.
‘Arthur Christmas’ (Rated PG) From the creative team behind ‘Wallace and Grommit’ comes this British tale of Santa’s son who attempts to recover a wrongfully gifted present. Hugh Laurie, James McAvoy and Bill Nighy led their voice talents to this animated family adventure.
‘A Dangerous Method’ (Rated R) David Cronenberg seems to have swayed from his horror past with the last few dramatic, if not unsettling, films. This time, he explores the dynamic relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud.
‘Hugo’ (Rated PG) Another 3D holiday entry, this time from acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Yes, the same guy who brought us ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Raging Bull’ is now making kid movies. While the budget appears to be huge for this one, I juts don’t see how it has wide-spread appeal. Set in 1930′s Paris with an orphan boy on a quest, I can’t help but think this one will fall into ‘Golden Compass’ territory of failure. Hopefully not, I like Scorsese films.
