Heroes & Sidekicks: Welcome to Sky High!
‘Sky High’ (2005)
Have you ever wondered where superheroes & sidekicks learn to master their craft? How about their home lives, their social networks and who their parents are? Better question: How do they get labeled as a hero or a sidekick? The answer is simple, you simply attend ‘Sky High’ and all your questions are answered!
Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) is at that awkward phase of his adolescence when he hasn’t discovered his true identity yet. His parents (Kurt Russell & Kelly Preston) are two of the most popular superheroes the world has ever known, The Commander & Jetstream, but Will hasn’t discovered his superpowers yet. Actually, Will doesn’t even know if he has any powers. All that changes when he, and other friends his age, begin attending the secret high school in the clouds, Sky High. After failing to achieve hero status, Will is labeled as a sidekick. This spells out social death, as sidekicks get no respect at all.
The film tackles every stereotype of a superhero film you can imagine, along with the “usuals” of a teen film. Jealousy, love, loss, revenge, flying busses and Bruce Campbell as a superhero gym coach. You know, the “usuals”.
With a spectacular cast that includes Cloris Leachman, Lynda Carter, Danielle Panabaker & Mary Elizabeth Winstead, this film holds a special quality that makes it memorable and fun for all ages.
