‘The Invention of Lying’  (2009)

As Ricky Gervais is back to host the Golden Globes again this year (sure to be an insultingly good time!), it is only fitting to take a listen to a film written, directed & starring the man himself.  Set in an alternate reality where mankind has no concept of a lie, ‘The Invention of Lying’ is a groundbreaking comedy where everything is EXACTLY as it seems, nothing is left to the imagination because, well, there isn’t really such thing as an imagination.  That would be a lie.

A concept of this magnitude is quite the undertaking, from both a writing and execution standpoint. When you create a story like this, there are so many details to get right that most of us couldn’t possibly understand how to even get started. Lucky for us, Ricky Gervais is an extremely talented comedy writer and pulls it off perfectly. Never, in the history of film, has there been a film so openly honest about everyday life in my opinion.

Inadvertently challenging religion, relationships & morals, ‘The Invention of Lying’ opens a huge can of worms when it comes to topics we traditionally consider taboo.  But, there is something very magical about hearing someone say exactly what is on their mind, or at least openly discuss their private inner thoughts verbally.

Check out Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Louis C.K. & a host of others as they tell the truth in true comedic fashion, surrounded by the world’s only man capable of lying, Ricky Gervais.  ‘The Invention of Lying’ Sound Quotes Collection page is now playing on Hark, or is it?  Maybe I’m lying.
