Nic Blazin’ Cage: The Return of Ghost Rider
Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors, and it isn’t just because his screen presence is so commanding, or even that he is one of the best actors around. No, for me, it’s simply the fact that he doesn’t seem to turn down any role that comes across his lap and he chews up the screen with such frenetic fury you cannot help but be seriously entertained.
Can he act? Sure.
Should he act? I suppose so.
Does he make terrible movies? You bet.
Is he one of the greatest gifts to movie quote history? Absolutely.
‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ is the sequel to Cage‘s 2007 comic book adaptation ‘Ghost Rider’ in which a naive kid makes a deal with the devil, unaware of the seriousness this commitment has on him later in life when he unwillingly becomes Satan’s bounty hunter. Through a series of events (mostly told via CGI-heavy scenes of fire and flame) Johnny Blaze (Cage), aka Ghost Rider, fulfills his dirty deeds but learns to control the powers of darkness for the purpose of fighting against the very evil that consumes him.
Now, 5 years later, Johnny Blaze is back in a sequel from the guys who brought us ‘Crank’ in an insanely kinetic action-adventure following Johnny’s exploits in Europe trying to stop the devil from taking human form. Add in some Christopher Lambert (Highlander, Mortal Kombat) & Idris Elba (fresh from his 2012 Golden Globe win) and I think we have a popcorn flick to satisfy our primal urge for fire-ridden furiosity & flame-shootin’ showdowns that are sorely missed from most February theatrical releases.
Catch up on the insanity with our ‘Ghost Rider’ Sound Quote Collection page before seeing the new flick in theaters Feb. 17th, as you and I well know Nicolas Cage won’t continue making these ridiculously fun films if we don’t support him 100%. Feel his pain.
